“Exotic” pet trade

The exotic pet trade captures, breeds, and sells non-domesticated species for private ownership. Animals are sourced from wild populations or breeding facilities and distributed through international trade networks, dealers, and private collectors.

While regulations differ across countries, the underlying structure remains consistent: animals are removed from natural ecosystems or bred in captivity and incorporated into commercial markets for private possession.
